Here's who I really am
Picture
I am a self-proclaimed foodie with a love for food with lots of flavor and having a sweet treat at the end of a meal.

I really enjoy grocery shopping, cooking at home, and experimenting with foods and recipes but, like you, have to work around my family's busy schedule and the sometimes (or often) pickiness of my two girls.  So I focus on finding ways for healthier foods to taste great but that doesn't require spending tons of time in the kitchen.

I make it a top priority to maintain a healthy lifestyle by getting enough rest,
eating lots of vegetables and fruits, and go walking or do yoga for 30-60 minutes daily.

I'm passionate about taking time to enjoy life, spend time with my family, and going to the beach.

I want to help you do the same so that you can spend more time doing what you love!
My background
I am a nutrition expert, with national certification as a registered dietitian nutritionist and a master's degree in nutrition and dietetics.  Most of my career as a registered dietitian nutritionist has involved helping people manage their weight and medical conditions.   When I first started working in this area in the mid-2000s, I was the nutritionist for a doctor who provided medical weight loss diets and then this expanded to helping people go through the process of having bariatric weight loss surgery and following them afterward.

My work with these individuals was both fulfilling and heartbreaking because I saw the length that some were willing to go in order to change their weight.  But the problem with these programs were that they were often not sustainable in the long-term.  Using "tools" like appetite suppressants and gastric bypass surgery often helped ease the burden of losing weight but it didn't always make it easier for someone to change their lifestyle habits.  Many times, once these clients lost weight, it was only a matter of time before they gained back some or all of the weight because they didn't have a vision for how they would live long-term with a plan that involved sustainable healthy lifestyle changes that included the foods they love.

I learned so much about the mindshifts that need to take place when you need to change habits that you've been doing for many years or your lifetime!  Since then, I've moved my focus on helping people become prevention-minded when it comes to their health and not to wait until they are diagnosed with a chronic disease to make changes.  If you're not feeling good in your body, right now is the time to find a better way to live using sustainable nutrition and lifestyle changes.
Why do I want to help you live a healthy lifestyle?
To put it simply, I've seen first hand the harmful impact that a low intake of fruits and vegetables, lack of exercise, poor sleep patterns, and other unhealthy lifestyle habits can have on people at all stages of life.

In today's world, we're often told to use prescription medications to manage health issues like high blood sugar (insulin resistance), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or get a drastic surgery because you're told your body fat is too high when simple changes to what you eat and your lifestyle are just as likely to make a significant difference...and without any negative side effects!  But more often than not, doctors don't have the time or the understanding of nutrition to guide you to sustainable healthy lifestyle changes.

I became interested in nutrition before I started college.  I began to realize that what I eat has an effect on how I feel and that when I ate healthier foods, I felt better and had more energy.  I wanted to learn more about what was in some foods that made them healthier than others.  So I began to read books and use the recommendations in cookbooks on how to make a meal or dessert healthier because I knew I couldn't give up carbs entirely!

Since I know that my sustainable healthy lifestyle has to include all the food that I love, I want the same for you, too!  I've found when guiding my clients to living their optimal life that adding healthier foods to your meals rather than taking away foods that you enjoy (whenever possible) is a much better approach and achieves better results.  In addition, working on being more mindful of what, why, and how you eat is important to understanding the role food plays in your life and helps you put things in perspective so that you can achieve your goals.

My clients are always excited to find out that I'm not "the food police" and I'm not going to make them give up everything that they love.  Rather, I help them create a vision for their health and their sustainable healthy lifestyle so that they can make empowered decisions and feel comfortable in their bodies again without having to rely on medications that just put a band-aid on the symptom.
A few random facts about me
  • I've lived in every time zone in the United States due to my husband's job.  But now, after almost 20 years "on the road," we've recently returned back to our home state of Pennsylvania to enjoy time with our families and raise our kids.
  • We own an Airstream camper that we used to travel for almost a month when we moved from Washington State to Texas a few years ago.  We saw the wonderful, natural beauty of six national parks on our trip, including Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the Grand Canyon.
  • I love to find creative ways to prepare healthy foods that "hide" some of the nutritious ingredients and thoroughly enjoy seeing the reaction on the faces of my friends and family when they are surprised by how healthy it is.
